12 Oct 2007 - Newsletter 12/10/07

Dear Parents,
I can?t believe this is the last newsletter before we break up for half term next week!
Look out next Thursday, 18th, for the Parents Evening appointment times. With this newsletter there should be a pink sheet with the revised term dates on, including the re-allocated INSET days.

We would love to celebrate their success and achievement. The next assembly will be Friday 19th October.

Gardening Club
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, this club will not be running until later in the school year.
We will be re-launching Gardening Club, possibly in connection with an inter-house competition. Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Afternoon
Clare Humphery would like to thank everyone who supported this event
by buying and donating cakes. A total of
£166-89 was raised.

Induction of Headteacher
At Bishop Declan?s request Father
David has arranged a short commissioning service or ?induction?as part of the
10.00am Mass at the church of the Immaculate Conception this Sunday 14th October. I shall obviously be there, and parents are welcome to come along, even if this is not their normal Parish. I appreciate your support in my role as Headteacher, which as for all teachers in Catholic Education, can be viewed as a vocation, not just a job.

Harvest Celebration
This will be on Thursday 18th October at 1.30pm. Please could you donate either fresh fruit and vegetables, or tins and packets (please check the date of these!).
Fresh produce should be brought in the day before, Wednesday 17th October. All other items can be brought in from Monday 15th October. As in previous years, the PTA have kindly agreed to sell donations after the Harvest Celebration. Proceeds will go to CAFOD. Remaining food will be donated to the Salvation Army.

New staff
We are pleased to have appointed a part-time administrative assistant
Arlene Mason, who will join our superb office team from 31st October. Jane Godsell will be in the office Monday-Wednesday; Arlene Mason will work 9-3.30 Wednesday, Thursday and 9-1.00 on Fridays. Juliet Whittard will work
mornings Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and all day Friday.
This week we have also appointed Mrs Sue Silman as a dedicated Y1 Teaching Assistant to support the teacher and the class in their transition from Foundation Stage into KS1. Mrs Silman will work
every morning and two afternoons with the class.

School Meals
Sodexho are introducing a new school menu starting 30th October. The cost per meal will be £1.80. Please remember that for all school meals that are paid for, payment needs to be in advance. Any cheques should be made out to SODEXHO.
Sodexho at the Rosary School are also introducing a new ?bag of fruit? to replace the fruit pots. This will be a clear sealable bag containing 4oz (100g) mixed fresh fruit, which will include grapes, apple slices, kiwi, orange pear and banana, depending on availability. It will be sold for 35p per bag at break time. We would
like to encourage Junior pupils to eat fruit at morning break, as this makes a very healthy snack

Boys Toilets
A few parents have commented on the odiferous nature of these facilities. The lower toilets have been re-furbished, but I am afraid younger boys do sometimes need to practice their ?aim?, which by the end of the day can lead to certain ?ambiance?. An ioniser has been installed in the top corridor toilets, along with a spring on the door. However, these toilets do suffer from a combination of older pipe work and the above mentioned problem. All the toilets were visited and inspected by the Governing
Body?s Premises Committee recently, who are ?looking into the problem?!

Cancellation of Clubs
There will be no clubs during the week of Parents Evenings, the week beginning Monday 5th November.

Accommodation wanted
We are pleased to welcome Lilly to our Reception class. Lilly?s mother is a foreign language assistant from Germany. She and Lilly are looking for a flat or room to rent near the Rosary School, or Stroud High School, until May 2008. If you know of any such accommodation, please leave a message at the office.

Lost Property
We have a number of unclaimed jumpers, cardigans and other
P.E items. They will be recycled over half term, if not re-united with their owners. Please come and see if you recognise anything after the Harvest celebration, or come into school at the end of the day to check. It is really helpful when parents remember to name clothing. Laundry markers are great if you are not able to sew or iron on labels.
